Introduction
The AD7656/AD7657/AD7658 each integrate six 16/14/12-bit, fast, low-power successive approximation ADCs in a single package, designed using iCMOS (industrial CMOS) process technology. iCMOS is a process that combines high-voltage silicon with sub-micron CMOS and complementary bipolar technologies. This process enables the development of high-performance analog ICs operating at up to 33V, achieving a size-to-performance ratio previously unattainable with conventional high-voltage devices. Unlike analog ICs fabricated in standard CMOS processes, iCMOS components not only accept bipolar input signals, but also deliver improved performance, significantly reduced power consumption, and smaller package sizes. All three devices offer a throughput rate of up to 250 kSPS and integrate low-noise, wide-bandwidth sample-and-hold amplifiers capable of handling input frequencies up to 12 MHz. The conversion process and data acquisition are controlled via the CONVST signals and an internal oscillator. Three CONVST pins allow three pairs of ADCs to perform simultaneous sampling independently. The AD7656/AD7657/AD7658 all feature a high-speed parallel interface and a high-speed serial interface, facilitating connectivity between the devices and a microprocessor or DSP. In serial interface mode, these devices support daisy-chaining of multiple ADCs to a single serial interface. All three devices support true bipolar input signals within the ranges of ±4 × V_REF and ±2 × V_REF. An on-chip 2.5 V voltage reference is also integrated.
