The TL494 integrates all the building blocks required for a PWM control circuit onto a single chip, primarily designed for power supply control with the flexibility to adapt to specific application needs. The TL494 incorporates two error amplifiers, an adjustable oscillator, a dead-time control (DTC) comparator, a pulse-steering flip-flop, a 5V precision regulator with 5% accuracy, and output control circuitry. The TL494 error amplifiers feature a common-mode voltage range from -0.3V to Vcc - 2V; the DTC comparator has a fixed offset that provides approximately 5% dead time; the sawtooth waveform at the oscillator CT pin can serve as a common signal for other synchronized multi-rail power supply systems, and the oscillator can be disabled by shorting the RT pin to the REF pin, allowing a sawtooth input to be fed directly into the CT pin. The output transistors can be configured for either common-emitter or common-collector output. The output control pin allows the TL494 to be selected for either push-pull or single-ended output operation.
