Introduction
MAX3483ESA is a low-power transceiver with ±15kV ESD protection, powered by +3.3V, designed for RS-485 and RS-422 communications. Each device contains one driver and one receiver. The MAX3483ESA features a slew-rate-limited driver that minimizes EMI and reduces reflections caused by improper cable termination, enabling error-free data transmission at data rates up to 250kbps. The device offers enhanced ESD protection. All transmitter outputs and receiver inputs are protected to IEC 1000-4-2 air-gap discharge ±8kV, IEC 1000-4-2 contact discharge ±8kV, and Human Body Model ±15kV standards. The driver incorporates short-circuit current limiting and is protected against excessive power dissipation by a thermal shutdown circuit that places the driver outputs in a high-impedance state. The receiver inputs feature a failsafe function that guarantees a logic-high output when both inputs are open. The MAX3483ESA is designed for half-duplex communications.
