Introduction
WS2808 is a dedicated IC for 12V three-channel LED driver control. The chip integrates an intelligent digital interface, data latch signal shaping amplifier driver circuit, and a high-precision internal oscillator. It supports breakpoint resume transmission, meaning the remaining ICs continue to operate normally even if one IC fails.
The chip uses single-wire return-to-zero (RZ) communication. After power-on reset, the DIN pin receives data transmitted from the controller. The first 24 bits of data are extracted by the first chip and latched into its internal data register; the remaining data is shaped and amplified by the internal signal conditioning circuit, then forwarded through the DO pin to the next cascaded chip. Each chip extracts 24 bits as the signal passes through. The chip employs automatic signal reshaping and forwarding technology, so the number of cascadable chips is not limited by signal transmission quality — only by signal transmission speed requirements.
Based on the received 24-bit data, the internal data latch generates different duty cycle control signals on the OUT1, OUT2, and OUT3 control pins. When a RESET signal is received on the DIN pin, all chips simultaneously transfer the received data to their respective segments. After the RESET signal ends, the chip begins accepting new data. Once the initial 24 bits are received, data is forwarded through the DO pin. Before a RESET code is received, the output states of OUT1, OUT2, and OUT3 remain unchanged. Upon receiving a low-level RESET code of 280μs or longer, the chip outputs the 24-bit PWM pulse width data just received to the OUT1, OUT2, and OUT3 pins.
