Adafruit Industries 2350

This single-color warm white LED features a 5050 form factor (5mm×5mm) SMT design with an integrated driver IC, delivering approximately 3000K color temperature. Unlit, it appears egg-yolk yellow; when illuminated, it achieves extremely high brightness controllable via 24-bit high-frequency PWM. Internally, three white dies paired with phosphor produce more uniform and consistent light output than RGB white mixing. Easy to solder, this LED offers a compact solution for integrating multiple high-brightness LEDs. DotStar uses a standard 2-wire SPI interface with data transfer speeds far exceeding NeoPixel's 800kHz protocol, with no specific timing requirements. Its significantly higher PWM refresh rate supports persistence-of-vision effects and effectively reduces flicker at low brightness levels. Each LED contains an onboard microcontroller that independently sets the brightness of three cool white dies. The LED operates like a shift register — reading data from the input pin and shifting previous data out through the output pin. By sending a long data stream, an unlimited number of LEDs can be controlled, requiring only the addition or removal of LEDs at the end of the chain. PWM functionality is integrated within each LED chip; once brightness is set, communication can cease and the LED will continuously maintain its PWM output. DotStar's PWM frequency reaches 20kHz — far higher than NeoPixel's 400Hz — delivering smooth color mixing with no visible pixelation even in motion. Each package contains 10 individual LEDs.
