Introduction
The ADuM3200/ADuM3201 are dual-channel digital isolators based on iCoupler technology. These isolation devices integrate high-speed CMOS with monolithic transformer technology, delivering superior performance characteristics over alternatives such as optocouplers. iCoupler devices require no LEDs or photodiodes, eliminating the design challenges typically associated with optocouplers. The straightforward iCoupler digital interface and stable performance characteristics remove the uncertainties common to optocouplers, including current transfer ratio variation, nonlinear transfer functions, and temperature and lifetime effects. These iCoupler products require no external drivers or other discrete components. Furthermore, at comparable signal data rates, iCoupler devices consume only 1/10 to 1/6 the power of optocouplers. The ADuM3200/ADuM3201 isolators provide two independent isolated channels, supporting multiple channel configurations and data rates. Either side can operate from a 3.3 V to 5 V supply voltage, ensuring compatibility with low-voltage systems and enabling voltage translation across the isolation barrier. The ADuM3200W and ADuM3201W are automotive-grade products rated for operation up to 125°C. Compared to ADuM120x isolators, the ADuM3200/ADuM3201 incorporate numerous circuit and layout improvements, with system-level IEC 61000-4-x testing (ESD, burst, and surge) demonstrating significantly enhanced performance. For both the ADuM120x and ADuM3200/ADuM3201 products, the accuracy of these tests depends primarily on the design and layout of the user's board or module.
