Introduction
The ADuM1280/ADuM1281/ADuM1285/ADuM1286 (also referred to as ADuM128x in this data sheet) are dual-channel digital isolators based on ADI's iCoupler technology. These isolation devices combine high-speed CMOS with monolithic air-core transformer technology, delivering superior performance characteristics over alternatives such as optocouplers and other integrated coupler devices.
These devices feature a propagation delay of 20 ns, with Grade C pulse width distortion less than 2 ns. Grade C also offers tight channel-to-channel matching of 5 ns. The ADuM128x dual channels are independent isolation channels, available in two configuration options and three different data rates, up to 100 Mbps. Industrial-grade models operate from a 2.7 V to 5.5 V supply voltage, while automotive-grade models operate from 3.0 V to 5.5 V, ensuring compatibility with low-voltage systems and enabling voltage translation across the isolation barrier. Unlike conventional optocouplers, ADuM128x isolators feature a patented refresh function that ensures DC correctness in the absence of input logic transitions. Upon initial power-up or when power has not yet been applied to the input side, the ADuM1280 and ADuM1281 default to a logic high output, while the ADuM1285 and ADuM1286 default to a logic low output.
