Introduction
The TPS6126x devices provide a power supply solution for products powered by one or two alkaline, NiCd, or NiMH cells. Featuring a unique advanced soft-start technology, they are well suited for products powered by high-output-impedance batteries such as coin cells. When operating from a single alkaline cell, the device delivers up to 100 mA of output current while allowing the battery to discharge down to 0.8V or below.
This boost converter is based on a quasi-fixed-frequency PWM controller that uses synchronous rectification to maximize efficiency. At low load currents, the converter enters a power-save mode to maintain high efficiency across a wide load current range. The maximum average switch current limit is programmable up to 700 mA. The output voltage can be programmed via an external resistive voltage divider or set to an internal fixed value on-chip. In addition, the average output current is also programmable. The converter then regulates either the programmed output voltage or the programmed output current, meeting the requirements for reduced output power consumption. The converter can be disabled to minimize battery drain. During shutdown, the load is disconnected from the battery. The device is available in a 6-pin WSON (DRV) package.
