Introduction
The TPS54824 is a full-featured 17V, 8A synchronous buck converter in a 3.5mm×3.5mm HotRod™ QFN package. The device is specifically optimized for high efficiency and integrates both high-side and low-side MOSFETs for compact solutions. It further saves space by employing peak current mode control — which reduces component count — and supporting high switching frequencies to minimize inductor size. Peak current mode control simplifies loop compensation and provides fast transient response. In the event of device overload, cycle-by-cycle peak current limiting for both high-side and low-side sink current limits protects the device. Hiccup mode limits MOSFET power dissipation when a short-circuit or overload fault persists. The power-good monitor circuit supervises the regulator output. The PGOOD pin is an open-drain output that goes high-impedance when the output voltage is in regulation. An internal blanking timer prevents the PGOOD pin from being pulled low unless a fault occurs. A dedicated EN pin controls regulator on/off and adjusts input undervoltage lockout. The output voltage startup ramp is controlled by the SS/TRK pin, which supports both standalone operation and tracking mode.
