Introduction
EG6599S is a dual-ended controller dedicated to resonant half-bridge topology. It provides a 50% complementary duty cycle, with equal on-times for the high-side and low-side switches, a 180° phase difference between them, and output voltage regulation through switching frequency modulation. A fixed dead time ensures soft switching and high-frequency operation. An external oscillator sets the converter's operating frequency, and an internal bootstrap diode is integrated. At startup, to prevent uncontrolled inrush current, the switching frequency starts from its maximum value and gradually decreases to the steady-state value determined by the control loop. This frequency shift is nonlinear, minimizing output voltage overshoot, with a programmable duration. The IC can be forced into controlled burst mode operation under light load to minimize converter input power consumption. IC features include an unlatched active-low disable input, cycle-by-cycle hiccup and undervoltage protection, current sense input, frequency auto-restart, and switchover and delayed shutdown. If the first-level protection is insufficient to control the IC, a higher-level OCP will latch the IC primary current. Their combination provides a complete overload and short-circuit protection circuit. An additional latched disable input (DIS) enables easy implementation of OTP or OVP. An interface with a PFC controller is provided, allowing shutdown under fault conditions — such as OCP shutdown and DIS high — or operation during burst mode.
