Introduction
CD4051B is an 8-channel analog multiplexer/demultiplexer with three address select inputs (A0–A2), an active-low enable input (E), eight independent input/output channels (Y0–Y7), and a common input/output terminal (Z).
The device contains eight bidirectional analog switches. One terminal of each switch connects to an individual input/output channel (Y0–Y7), while the other terminal connects to the common input/output (Z).
When E is low, the switch channel selected by A0–A2 is in a low-impedance ON state. When E is high, the A0–A2 settings are ignored and all switches are in a high-impedance OFF state. The enable input (E) must be used whenever switch state transitions are required.
VDD and VSS are the supply voltages for the digital control inputs (A0–A2 and E). The (VDD − VSS) range is 3V to 18V. The analog inputs/outputs (Y0–Y7 and Z) can swing from a minimum of VEE to a maximum of VDD.
For use as a digital multiplexer, VEE and VSS are connected together (typically tied to ground).
