Introduction
The L298N is a dual full-bridge stepper motor driver IC featuring an internal 4-channel logic drive circuit. It is a dedicated driver for 2-phase and 4-phase stepper motors, capable of simultaneously driving two 2-phase or one 4-phase stepper motor. The device integrates two H-bridges in a high-voltage, high-current dual full-bridge driver configuration, accepts standard TTL logic level signals, and can drive stepper motors rated below 36V and 2A. Output voltage can be regulated directly via the supply voltage. The IC can receive analog timing signals directly from MCU I/O ports. Two enable inputs allow independent control of each H-bridge's active and cutoff states. The emitters of the lower transistors in each bridge are connected together with an external sense resistor. A separate logic supply input allows the logic circuitry to operate at a lower voltage. The L298N is available in a Multiwatt15 package.
