Introduction
The V2DIP2-64 module is designed for rapid development of designs based on the VNC2-64Q IC. The V2DIP2-64 is provided as a PCB that can be inserted into a 60-pin, 0.8-inch wide, 0.1-inch pitch DIP socket. The module provides access to the UART, parallel FIFO, and SPI interface pins of the VNC2-64Q device via its IO bus pins. Two USB ports are accessed through Type-A USB connectors.
VNC2 is one of FTDI's Vinculum family devices: it is the second product in the FTDI Vinculum series of embedded dual USB host controller ICs. The device is capable of handling USB host interfaces for a variety of different USB device classes, such as BOMS (Bulk Only Mass Storage), Printer, HID (Human Interface Device), and others. When interfacing with mass storage devices such as USB flash drives, the VNC2 can also transparently handle FAT file systems.
Communication with non-USB devices such as low-cost microcontrollers is achieved via UART, SPI, or parallel FIFO interfaces using a simple command set. VNC2 provides a new cost-effective solution for adding USB host functionality to products that previously lacked the available hardware resources.
The device features a debug interface with bus master capability along with a suite of tools that enable customers to create their own firmware (compiler-linker-debugger-assembler-IDE).
Vinculum-II VNC2 series devices are available in lead-free (RoHS compliant) 32-pin LQFP, 32-pin QFN, 48-pin LQFP, 48-pin QFN, 64-pin LQFP, and 64-pin QFN package options.
