Introduction
A varistor is a component with voltage-current characteristics that support rapid current flow under certain voltage conditions. The function of a varistor is to protect electronic components in circuits from overvoltage. When a pulse (pulse current Is: determined by pulse voltage Vs and impedance Zs) is applied to the circuit, the pulse current (Is) limits the pulse voltage within the clamping voltage Vc of the varistor. Due to its ability to absorb abnormal voltage and current pulses, a varistor can protect electronic components with very high efficiency.
