The PCM510xA family of devices are a series of monolithic CMOS ICs integrating a stereo DAC and additional support circuitry in a compact TSSOP package. PCM510xA devices employ TI's latest generation advanced segmented DAC architecture to achieve excellent dynamic performance and improved tolerance to clock jitter. PCM510xA devices utilize Directpath™ charge pump technology to provide a 2.1 VRMS ground-centered output, enabling designers to eliminate DC-blocking capacitors at the output as well as the external muting circuitry required by conventional single-supply line drivers. The integrated line driver supports loads as low as 1 kΩ per pin, surpassing all other charge pump-based line drivers. The on-chip integrated PLL eliminates the need for a system clock (commonly referred to as a master clock), allowing a three-wire I2S connection and reducing system EMI. Intelligent clock error detection and PowerSense undervoltage protection employ a two-stage muting system for pop-free performance. Compared to many conventional switched-capacitor DAC architectures, the PCM510xA family reduces out-of-band noise by up to 20 dB — measured from the conventional 100 kHz out-of-band noise measurement point to 3 MHz — reducing EMI and aliasing in downstream amplifiers/ADCs.
