Introduction
These small, low input current, high-gain optocouplers are single-channel devices in a five-pin mini-flat package. The SO-5 JEDEC registered package eliminates the need for through-holes on the PCB. The package footprint is approximately one-quarter that of a standard DIP. The lead profile is compatible with standard SMT processes. These high-gain series optocouplers use an LED and an integrated high-gain photodetector to provide an extremely high current transfer ratio between input and output. Separate pins for the photodiode and output stage enable TTL-compatible saturation voltage and high-speed operation. If required, the VCC and VO terminals can be connected together for conventional photodarlington operation. The HCPL-M701 is suitable for CMOS, LSTTL, or other low-power applications. Over the operating temperature range of 0°C to 70°C, a minimum CTR of 400% is guaranteed with an LED current of only 0.5mA. The HCPL-M700 is primarily designed for TTL applications. Over the temperature range of 0°C to 70°C, the minimum CTR is 300% at an LED current of 1.6mA. The 300% CTR allows operation with 1 TTL unit load using a 2.2kΩ pull-up resistor. Models with input currents as low as 250μA are available upon request.
