This specification covers the application requirements for EP-II contacts and receptacle housings used in wire-to-board interconnections. Contacts are available in sizes 26-24, 22-18, and 20-16. Each contact has a wire barrel, insulation barrel, and locking window. The wire barrel is serrated to help secure the wire. Contacts are available in two types: with inner tongue and without inner tongue. Contacts with an inner tongue have higher mating force and current ratings, and are typically used with receptacle housings having fewer positions. Contacts without an inner tongue have lower mating force and current ratings, and are typically used with receptacle housings having more positions. Contacts are provided in strip form and can be terminated using automated machinery. Receptacle housings are available in 2 to 12 positions, with a contact cavity centerline spacing of 3.96. Circuit positions are identified by raised numerals on the rear of the receptacle housing. Each contact cavity has a locking ramp that engages the locking window of the contact to secure the contact within the receptacle housing. A 12-position removable contact retainer is available as a secondary locking device to prevent contact withdrawal in applications subject to random vibration. The retainer locking tab on the receptacle housing secures the removable contact retainer to the receptacle housing. The receptacle housing has a mating latch to prevent accidental unmating of mated connectors. Receptacle housings are compatible with standard EP plugs.
