Introduction
GC4938 is a three-phase brushless DC motor pre-driver IC. The chip drives N-type power MOSFETs with a maximum supply voltage of 36V. State transition logic is determined by three Hall inputs with 120° phase difference.
The chip integrates fixed off-time PWM to regulate current and suppress inrush current; programmable locked-rotor protection time; over-temperature protection, overvoltage monitoring, synchronous rectification, and more. The built-in synchronous rectifier reduces power dissipation by turning on the appropriate low-RDS(on) switching device during the decay period to replace the freewheeling diode. When an overvoltage condition is detected, the chip disables synchronous rectification to reduce supply voltage fluctuations caused by changing current.
GC4938 logic input pins include Enable (ENABLE), Direction (DIR), Brake (BRAKEZ), and Noise Control (SYN); logic output pin FG1 corresponds to the Hall signal and can be used to monitor rotational speed.
Operating temperature range: -40~110°C. Package: 5mm×5mm QFN-28 with exposed thermal pad.
Features
- Drives three half-bridges (6 NMOSFETs)
- Wide voltage range: 7.5~36V
- Low-power synchronous rectification
- Hall sensor input
- Built-in undervoltage protection and over-temperature protection
- Low-current sleep mode
- FG speed output
- Dead-time shoot-through prevention
- Locked-rotor protection
- Overvoltage protection
