The DIODES PI4IOE5V9538 provides 8-bit general-purpose parallel I/O (GPIO) expansion for I²C bus/SMBus applications. It features higher drive capability, 5V tolerance, lower power supply, independent I/O configuration, and a smaller package. It offers a simple solution when additional I/O is needed for ACPI power switches, sensors, buttons, LEDs, fans, and similar applications. The PI4IOE5V9538 consists of one 8-bit register for configuring I/Os as inputs or outputs, plus two 8-bit polarity registers for inverting the polarity of input port register data. Data for each input or output is held in the corresponding input port or output port register. All registers are readable by the system host. The PI4IOE5V9538 open-drain interrupt output (INT) is asserted whenever any input state changes, indicating to the system host that an input state has changed. Power-on reset sets all registers to their default values and initializes the device state machine. The reset pin enables the same reset/initialization without powering down the device. Two hardware pins (A0 and A1) allow modification of the fixed I2C bus address, enabling up to four devices to share the same I2C bus/SMBus.
