The PCM186x series audio front-end devices introduce a new approach to audio function integration, enabling easy compliance with European Ecodesign regulations while achieving high-performance end products at lower cost. The PCM186x supports 3.3V single-supply operation and provides an integrated PGA in a small package; this configuration enables smaller, smarter products at reduced cost. The PCM186x audio front end supports single-ended input levels ranging from small mV-level microphone inputs to 2.1VRMS line inputs, eliminating the need for external resistor voltage dividers. The front-end mixer (MIX), MUX, and PGA also support differential (Diff), pseudo-differential, and single-ended (SE) inputs, making these devices ideal interfaces for products requiring noise rejection. The PCM186x integrates numerous system-level functions that can supplement or replace certain DSP functions. The integrated bandgap voltage reference delivers excellent PSRR, potentially eliminating the need for a dedicated analog 3.3V supply rail.
