Introduction
TI MSP430 series ultra-low-power microcontrollers come in a wide variety. Each member device is equipped with different peripheral sets to meet the needs of various applications. This architecture, when used in conjunction with five low-power modes, is the optimal choice for extending battery life in portable measurement applications. The device features a powerful 16-bit RISC CPU, using 16-bit registers and a constant generator for maximum coding efficiency. The digitally controlled oscillator (DCO) can wake up from a low-power mode to an active mode in 3µs (typical).
MSP430F533x devices are microcontrollers equipped with the following peripherals: an integrated 3.3V low-dropout regulator (LDO), a high-performance 12-bit ADC, a comparator, two USCI, a hardware multiplier, DMA, four 16-bit timers, an RTC module with an alarm function, and up to 74 I/O pins.
Features
- Supply voltage range: 1.8V to 3.6V
- Ultra-low power consumption
- Active Mode (AM): All system clocks active: 270µA/MHz at 8MHz, 3.0V, Flash program execution (typical)
- Standby Mode (LPM3): Watchdog and power monitor with crystal available, full RAM retention, fast wake-up: 1.8µA at 2.2V, 2.1µA at 3.0V (typical)
- Turn off RTC Mode (LPM3.5): Off mode with active RTC using crystal: 1.1µA at 3.0V (typical)
- Turn off Mode (LPM4.5): 0.3µA at 3.0V (typical)
- Wake-up from standby mode within 3µs (typical)
- 16-bit RISC architecture, extended memory, system clock up to 20MHz
- Four 16-bit timers, each with 3, 5, or 7 capture/compare registers
- Two universal serial communication interfaces (USCI)
- USCI_A0 and USCI_A1 both support: Enhanced UART with automatic baud rate detection, IrDA encoder and decoder, synchronous SPI
- USCI_B0 and USCI_B1 both support: I²C, synchronous SPI
- Integrated 3.3V power supply system
- 12-bit ADC with internal shared reference, sample-and-hold, and auto-scan
- Dual 12-bit DAC with synchronization
- Voltage comparator
- Hardware multiplier supporting 32-bit operations
