Introduction
The TPS7A41 is an ultra-high-voltage-tolerant linear regulator that combines the benefits of a thermally enhanced package (MSOP-8) with the ability to withstand continuous DC voltages or transient input voltages up to 50V. The TPS7A41 remains stable with any output capacitor greater than 4.7μF and any input capacitor greater than 1μF (thermal and surge protection). Due to its compact MSOP-8 package and the potentially small output capacitors required, implementation demands very little board space. In addition, the TPS7A41 provides an enable pin (EN) compatible with standard CMOS logic to enable a low-current shutdown mode. The TPS7A41 features thermal shutdown and current limiting to protect the system under fault conditions. The MSOP-8 package operates over a temperature range of TJ = -40°C to 125°C. Furthermore, the TPS7A41 is well suited for generating low-voltage supplies from intermediate voltage rails in telecom and industrial applications. The device not only provides a well-regulated voltage rail, but also withstands and maintains regulation through ultra-high fast voltage transients. These features effectively replace a more complex and costly electrical surge protection circuit, making the device attractive across a wide range of applications.
