RENESAS ISL88731CHRTZ

The ISL88731C is a highly integrated lithium-ion battery charger controller programmable via SMBus. The ISL88731C is designed for use as a Smart Battery Charger (SBC) in Smart Battery Systems (SBS), regulating charge power while automatically limiting AC adapter current. High efficiency is achieved through a synchronous rectified DC/DC buck converter with diode emulation for improved light-load efficiency and prevention of system bus boosting. The ISL88731C charges 1 to 4 series-connected lithium-ion cells with a maximum charge current of 8A. Integrated MOSFET drivers and bootstrap diode reduce component count and solution size. A low-offset current sense amplifier with a 10mΩ sense resistor provides high accuracy. The ISL88731C offers 0.5% charge termination battery voltage accuracy. The ISL88731C provides a digital output indicating AC adapter presence and an analog output indicating adapter current within 4% accuracy. The ISL88731C is offered in a 5mm×5mm 28-lead thin (0.8mm) QFN package. An evaluation kit is available to shorten design time. The ISL88731C is available in a lead-free package.
