A differential Hall-effect sensor IC capable of detecting motion in gear-tooth and magnetic encoder applications. A magnetic field from a back-bias permanent magnet is required to detect the motion of ferromagnetic objects. Either the south or north pole of the magnet can be attached to the unmarked back of the IC package. Magnetic measurement is based on three equally spaced Hall elements integrated on the IC. Magnetic offset and mechanical offset are eliminated through a self-calibration algorithm. The sensor features a current-output PWM protocol.
