The Atmel AT88SC0808CA is a high-performance secure memory device offering 8K bits of user memory with advanced built-in security and cryptographic features. The user memory is divided into eight 128-byte zones, each independently configurable with different security access rights, or effectively combined to provide space for one to eight data files. The AT88SC0808CA features an enhanced command set that enables direct communication with a microcontroller's hardware 2-wire interface, accelerating firmware development and reducing code space requirements.

The AT88SC0808CA delivers high security, low cost, and ease of implementation without requiring a microprocessor operating system. The embedded cryptographic engine supports dynamic symmetric mutual authentication between the device and host, as well as stream encryption of all data and passwords exchanged between the device and host. Up to four sets of unique keys can be used for these operations. The AT88SC0808CA is capable of communicating with virtually any smart card reader/writer via the asynchronous T=0 protocol defined by ISO 7816-3 (Gemplus patent).

Through dynamic symmetric mutual authentication, data encryption, and the use of encrypted message authentication codes (MAC), the AT88SC0808CA provides a secure location for storing sensitive information within a system. With its tamper detection circuitry, this information remains secure even under attack. A 2-wire serial interface operating at up to 1.0MHz provides fast and efficient communication, supporting up to 15 independently addressable devices. The AT88SC0808CA comes in an industry-standard 8-pin package with the same pin configuration as the Atmel AT24CXXX series serial EEPROM.
